IntelliJoint Surgical wins CE Mark for Hip 3D hip arthroplasty nav system

IntelliJoint Surgical said this week it won CE Mark approval in the European Union for its IntelliJoint Hip 3D mini-optical navigation system.

The Waterloo, Ontario-based company said the system is designed to provide surgeons with measurements for cup position, leg length and offset for total hip arthroplasty procedures without requiring pre-operative or intra-operative imaging.

The Hip 3D navigation system is the company’s flagship, and is designed to be usable with any implant manufacturer and supports both anterior, lateral and posterior approaches, IntelliJoint said.

“The CE mark supports our mission of making the IntelliJoint Hip technology accessible to every surgeon and every patient. IntelliJoint Surgical has developed a global strategy for its product portfolio and our rapid expansion in the US market paired with our versatile business model has prepared us for global scale,” CEO Armen Bakirtzian said in a press release.

IntelliJoint said it plans to enter the European market next year, and is hopeful for approval from Australia’s Therapeutic Goods Administration next month.

Last November, IntelliJoint said it raised $11 million in a new round of Series A financing to support its IntelliJoint Hip miniature optical orthopedic surgical navigation tool.
